A word from Susan Daly, our Fundraising Coordinator on Funding in 2009: During 2009, I have often been asked about the impact of the recession on the funding at Kids Haven and whether we are surviving. I am happy to report that this has been another stable year for income generation and we are managing to meet our expenses every month while maintaining high standards of care and a full range of services. This is due to a number of factors: 1. KH has 3 major donors providing 60% of our income needs this year. While it is never ‘good’ to rely on few donors for maximum funding, we are very grateful that these 3 donors are underpinning our work this year. All 3 of these donors have supported KH since 2003. 2. Many donors are continuing to donate money to KH, including new donors, because we consistently do what we say we do and we are transparent in our governance and finances. This makes us a credible organisation that donors can reliably donate funds to, knowing they will be correctly used. 3. Volunteering and sending corporate ‘foot soldiers’ through the doors of an organization to personally connect with the Centre has resulted in KH receiving many more visitors this year – many of whom continue to support our work after the initial visit because they were happy with what they witnessed. Word of mouth approval of our work is all the PR that we need to send a positive message to other citizens to support our initiatives. Kids Haven is, as always, grateful for every bit of support that we receive. Donors who continually drop off their goods for our use keep us in clothing and other resources to the point that we share these things with other smaller organisations as well as increase our own income generation programme year on year slowly but steadily. Fundraising is never easy or guaranteed. However, we all remain positive that support will follow the consistent hard work that the Childcare staff persist with to rehabilitate the children and reintegrate them into their communities again. Thank you for supporting our work.

oKids Haven was founded in 1992 by Moira Simpson in response to the many children on the streets of Benoni, we are a non profit organisation that provides a safe and secure environment for boys and girls of all ages who have lived and worked on the streets or who have been removed from abusive homes.
oWe have various care programmes that form the arms of our organization; a drop in centre and outreach team, who actively engage with children on the streets, building relationships; we have 24 hour residential care, both a shelter in Benoni and 6 permanent homes in Mckenzie Park, we provide all of our children with individual and appropriate medical, educational and psychosocial care as well as food, clothing, and life skills support. We provide our community with a community preschool and assist families in our community with both food and school fee support
oUpon intake our children are placed directly into our rehabilitation programmes; we ensure that all our children attend school and provide skills training for those children who cannot cope in a mainstream academic environment.
